Dance of the Departed Souls

Many ancient cultures believed that the northern lights were created by the souls of the departed in the heavens. When I was shooting the aurora over the Koyukuk River near Wiseman, Alaska, the lights were dancing the sky with such a fascinating, hypnotic rhythm that I could almost imagine that they were the eternal light from long-vanquished souls.
